A bio-inspired drone technology to protect Mediterranean aquaculture

LANEGO supported the establishment of a strategic partnership between Electronic Bird Control (EBC) and the Cyprus Mariculture Association (CMA) to deploy E-Raptor, a bio-inspired drone designed to sustainably protect aquaculture farms from damage caused by certain bird species.

Across many Mediterranean regions, aquaculture operations face increasing economic losses due to protected species such as gulls, herons, and cormorants. Traditional deterrence methods are often either ineffective or environmentally intrusive.

The E-Raptor drone replicates the morphology and flight dynamics of a bird of prey, triggering a natural territorial response in pest species—without the use of lethal methods or negative ecological impact. Equipped with advanced onboard systems and vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities, it can be easily deployed within aquaculture operations.

An operational demonstration was conducted at the aquaculture port of Pentakomo (Cyprus), notably in the presence of Clélia Chevrier Kolacko, Ambassador of France to Cyprus, as well as representatives from public authorities and the industry.

This partnership illustrates how European technological innovation and international cooperation can deliver concrete solutions to the environmental and economic challenges faced by maritime sectors.
